At Mastercover we know that when you’ve passed your test you just want to get out on the road, but sometimes pricey premiums or costly insurance policies can prove an obstacle to your driving. We work to make your first insurance policy more affordable by comparing policies from the UK’s top insurers. It is worth noting that many insurers consider more than just the price of your car and the area you live in; indeed, more and more insurers are now examining your driving habits before offering a quotation, so you need to be sure that you’re driving safely and correctly at all times.
There are many ways for young drivers to reduce the price of their car insurance:
The GPS box is installed behind your car’s dashboard, so nobody can see it. The cost of fitting the box is included in the quoted price.
Yes. We can offer cover for both provisional insurance and full licence holders aged 17 to 25. We’ve teamed up with a panel of specialist insurers that offer different packages – based on the type of license you have. Call us on 0800 652 3799 and we can talk you through the options available.
Your driving data will not be passed on to any third parties other than your insurers, unless required for the prevention and detection of crime.
The box is fitted to the vehicle to monitor how the vehicle is driven and over how many miles.
Your insurers may also use this data to adjust your premium should you exceed the annual mileage declared at the beginning of your insurance cover. As with many GPS devices, the box can also gather and record other useful pieces of data. This information is used if you need to top up your miles at renewal to make sure that you are still getting the best possible quotation.
Your insurers will be able to quote with an accurate record of your annual mileage, the type of roads you have travelled on (some roads are deemed higher/lower risk by insurers, such as country roads, dual carriageways) or give you a discount if your driving is extremely good.
No problem – you’re fully covered 24 hours a day. We offer policies that do not restrict when you can use your vehicle. We also offer policies which give discounts for not driving between 11pm and 5am. You will be advised of all cover and restrictions at time of quotation before you buy a policy.
Yes. When it comes to earning No Claims Bonus or No Claims Discount, this policy works no differently to any other insurance policy. On completion of a full term of young driver insurance (12 months) you will accrue one year No Claims Bonus which can be transferred to your next policy at renewal. This is subject to there being no fault claims during the life of the policy.
We cannot insure any vehicle with modifications.
This policy does not allow you to drive any other car. The only car you are covered to drive is the one shown on your certificate of insurance.
The policy is designed to allow young drivers (aged 17 – 25) gain their own No Claims Discount on their own vehicle. Hence, the insured (i.e. main driver) must also be the registered owner and keeper of the insured vehicle.
No. This is known as “insurance fronting.” This is illegal and is classed as obtaining insurance by deception. If the vehicle is solely or predominantly used by the young driver the policy must be insured in the main driver’s name. If the insurer finds out they are likely to cancel the policy or worse still, in the event of an accident, refuse to pay out.
However, there is a considerable discount for adding a parent (one other mature driver) as a named driver on your policy. As long as the named driver is not over 70 years of age and is only a casual user this can make a huge difference to the premium.
Yes, but please be aware that the way they drive will be taken into account as the box tracks the car and not the driver.
Parents can use the car provided that they have “driving any other vehicles extension” on their own insurance, alternatively they will need to be added to the insurance as named drivers (not main drivers). As the box is fitted to the car, regardless of who is driving the box will monitor their driving.
